Antique Markets in Umbria and Tuscany

Somewhere, every weekend in the ancient towns and hilltops of Umbria and Tuscany, there is an antique market! All manner of treasures are to be found. From glass and ceramics to taxidermied animals, puppets and postcards, crucifixes, cups, toy cars chandeliers and war medals. Stalls selling antique farming equipment, linen, and jewellery. Battered suitcases and shoes, trays, trinkets; paintings and photographs;

Anatomical ex-votos, made from pewter or silver-coated copper are shaped as body parts. They were popular in the 19th century in Italy and France to offer thanks for prayers answered, or offered as a prayer for recovery. Traditionally they were hung on the walls of a church or person’s home to remember the grace of God.
